Leaders are subject to paradoxes in the very exercise of their functions (solitude, isolation sometimes), their image (the one they have of themselves and the one that others reflect back to them), their entourage (fantasized vision of their position), their capacitý (expected, supposed, real or contested) to solve the company’s problems.
The feeling of loneliness so common among leaders sometimes leads them to create a distance with the organisation, a gap that needs to be bridged, until the right distance is found. Leaders must take up strategic and human challenges that require a step back, a pause, a time for reflection, allowing them to remain visionary while maintaining operational vigilance at all times.
Coaching will allow the leader to connect to his deepest desires, to clarify his strategic vision, to apprehend his environment differently, to adopt a ‘helicopter’ mode that will allow him to navigate easily between long-term vision and short-term actions, to engage his teams in a cooperative mode by using the lever of collective intelligence, to lead his company in a context of permanent transformation. It will also be a place for him to get to know himself better, to learn to manage his energy, his stress, the effects of his communication, his ability to stand back, and to define his identity as a leader.
Finally, the coaching will allow the manager to work on his posture, to prepare his speeches, to better lead his Management Committee, to better manage his relations with his partners, his interactions with his investors, his public speaking.
The leader himself will have to show courage, humility and clear-sightedness to take up his challenges, with his own values and the meaning he wishes to put into his leadership. Most founders, CEOs and COOs of successful companies are coached. They do not use coaching as an admission of weakness, but as an accelerator, an opportunity to exploit their potential, to keep their motivation intact, and to transform themselves in order to better support their organisation.
We coach leaders because we have worked with them for many years and we like them. We know organisations well, how they work, their needs for transformation, their multicultural nature. We know how committed and dedicated leaders are to their role, with that extraordinary will to succeed, like top athletes. And like athletes, we know how coaching can be a resource for them to find serenity, clarity and inspiration.
